Soft Tissue Therapy, A Career I Chose To Help People Feel Better

Spring has officially sprung and this year it has a very different feel, or maybe it’s just me? Cycling around central London in the sunshine and being able to see people’s faces no longer hidden by their masks makes me feel hopeful for the future once again.

I was out with the boys at the weekend having a couple of drinks and watching rugby when a new mate joined us – it felt great to be out again and talking to new people, but what was funny was having to explain what I do.

Soft Tissue Therapist isn’t exactly a role most people are familiar with, so explaining that we use advanced manual therapy techniques as well as sports massage to help manage and rehabilitate your soft tissues, like your muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia always gets me going, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s Saturday night and I’m out at the pub!

Helping people feel better in their own skin is something of a calling for me, not just a job, and nothing makes me feel happier than being able to help someone in pain – I have been on this journey for a few years now and it never cease to amaze me how interconnected pain is to past trauma, not just bad posture or sports injury.

This is why when new clients come to me, I spend a lot of time assessing them physically, but also trying to find out about their lifestyle, as well as any shock that they have gone through, whether physical or emotional, because it often ends up somewhere in the body in one form of ache or another.

So, inevitably, our new mate ended up telling me about his back pain and we were chatting for a very long time about life, injury and the mountain of stress he’s under because of his role, all factors that contribute to his condition. His sounds like a challenging case but looks like I’ll be able to get to the root of his pain and help him over the next few weeks to get rid of this problem.

When do I think you could do with soft tissue therapy? Generally speaking, anytime really, as it helps improve your capability and performance in all aspects of life.

But, of course, the greatest impact soft tissue therapy has is when it comes to handling injuries and long standing aches, including stress or pain caused by sitting for long hours in front of your computer, as well as promoting physical and mental recovery, improving your sport performance and as part of a rehabilitation programme.

Making long lasting changes can take time but if you have an issue that simply doesn’t go away, come and see me, or join me for a free consultation to see how I can help – understanding the full picture will help me devise a personalised plan to get you back to living pain free.

Til next time,
